In the fall of 1989, Gene Smith posted a note at the Shelby Club’s Show and on a bulletin board of the “Mustang Connection” store looking for those interested in forming a Mustang Club in the Louisville Area. A group of about 20 attending our first gathering. A few of those Charter members are still active in the club today. Derby City Mustang Club became a MCA Regional Club on February 11, 1992. In 1998, Bill Collins Ford requested DCMC to host the Bill Collins Mustang and all Ford Show. After that successful show, Bill Collins was impressed by the club’s professionalism and organization and extended an offer to sponsor the club in an effort to promote the Mustang brand. Bill Collins Ford is now our host sponsor and the location of our monthly meetings. Derby City Mustang Club prides itself on family, friends, fun and what a better way to bring them all together than with our passion for Mustangs. We participate in day trips to local attractions, restaurants, parades and car shows in an effort to keep us active with our Mustangs.
Profits from Fordfest, the Derby City Mustang Club’s annual car show, support local charities such as The Crusade for Children, Kosair Charities, Bill Collins Parkinson Fund, Honor Flight Bluegrass, and Active Heroes. We hope that in a small part our donations can make life better for those less fortunate.
While we support all local, regional and National Mustang car events, we are focused on people, more than our cars. Our goal is to socialize, have fun, and support our community in any way possible.
Our Derby City Mustang Club has over 100 active member families. Ownership of a Mustang is not required to become a member, just an appreciation for this classic car. We extend one year free membership to all Active Duty Military Personnel. Everyone is encouraged to join us the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM for our monthly meeting at Bill Collins Ford.
